When I first interviewed Sarah Oster (founder of Three Of Me) for the Winter edition of the Gathered SA Market and then visited her at the Market, I remember thinking, “how am I going to fit ALL these scrunchies into my little purse?!”. While I ended up choosing just three (yes, I will re-stock at the next Market, don’t worry!) scrunchies, I was quite pleased with her selection of scrunchies on offer, which included a diverse range of fabric, textures, and designs that will step up your mane management game, whilst looking cute as heck and oh-so-on-trend!
With the upcoming Gathered Design Market in October, I had a Q&A with Sarah about her anticipations around participating in the market as a stall holder and in particular, talking about her newest accessory: clutches. Have a read of our exchange below:
Tema: Hello again, Sarah! It’s been a while since our last chat – how are you doing?
Sarah: I’m doing well, thank you. Life has been busy with my 3 children (my youngest just turned 1 and my middle one is about to turn 12) and my café has been super hectic lately, as we’ve just opened up to be a 7-day business, so life is all go-go-go at the moment!
Tema: How are things going with the business?
Sarah: Things have been great lately – I have reached over 500 followers on my Instagram account (my first milestone!), I’ve been busy pumping out orders coming through my online shop, I’ve been attending new markets to help build a solid knowledge of my brand, I have been building up more stockists for my products, and most excitingly, I have been designing and creating a few new products that will be launched at Gathered SA on October 26th and 27th!
Tema: How does it feel to be returning to Gathered SA for their October markets?
Sarah: I am really excited to be returning in October – the atmosphere and vibe the market has is so enjoyable to be a part of! Last time round, I got along really well with my Market neighbour Elise from Elesse Art (amazing ink artwork) and it was great to see the amount of talent we have right here in South Australia. Spring is the start of the market season, so I’m looking forward to meeting a lot of new people and welcome back my regular customers too, as well as launching something new in the accessories department!
Tema: What did you experience from the previous market and how do you think it helped your business?
Sarah: The winter edition of Gathered SA was the first I had attended, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. To my surprise (and relief), I found the customers to be amazing! The stall holders were lovely to meet and talk to and Jenna and her team were super helpful all weekend. When attending the last market, I went with only my scrunchies (we all know a good scrunchie is hard to find). The feedback I received was amazing, where people loved my product and raved about its quality. It also gave me a chance to see that there was a gap in the market scene. I have been working on my new product for a few months now and finally have something I’m proud of! It is super cute, functional, and ticks the boxes around the necessity and practicality factors in the accessory game!
Tema: Can you tell us a bit more about your newest addition of accessories – clutches – to your colorful mix, please?
Sarah: I have been working with the idea to add to my range for a while, but I needed to keep to something that was unique and something I enjoyed making. I love that customers want to use Three Of Me products to accessorise and a scrunchie (still the hottest on-trend item at the moment) is the last thing you put in to complete your outfit (or so I thought). But, I wanted to add to that. What do you do just before you head out the door? You grab your clutch! When you choose your outfit and are about to leave for the day (or night), your last decision is what bag suits what your wearing? But this isn’t any ordinary clutch and that’s what I hope will add to the versatility of my product.
Tema: What can people anticipate from your clutches?
Sarah: My clutches are a process and essentially YOU get to design your clutch! Say what!? A personalized clutch but how? So, what you can expect is a super cute clutch made from beautifully chosen fabrics (something for everyone’s taste) with an internal pocket that is fully lined. The outer layer is made from PVC, which will protect your clutches from getting stained or fearing you’ll soak up someone else’s drink on a night out.
Tema: How do you think your clutches will stand out and being uniquely a ‘Three of Me’ brand?
Sarah: Being that my clutches are customizable, they are a process to purchase but super simple! It’s actually more of a shopping experience – so, if your going to buy something, you want it to be exactly what you want. I have designed a really unique cut for the top fold consisting of 3 angles (Three Of Me, Three Angles) – here’s what you can expect when you shop with us:
- Step 1: you step up to the Three Of Me Stall and are greeted by me (Sarah) the maker and creator. You then select a PVC Outer. These outers come with a choice of either gold or silver hardware.
- Step 2: select the inner for your clutch. We have over 30 designs to choose from and this insert in interchangeable! That’s right – if you get sick of what your clutch looks like, simply slide one insert out and put a new one in (2,3,4 bags in one – yes, really!)
- Step 3: by this stage, I would have probably tried a joke or 2 with you (I can’t help it), but this is where the optional extras come into it. You can choose to also add a card wallet to your clutch – a safe spot to store your ID and bank card for when you’re heading out, because no one likes all their bits and pieces rolling around in the bottom of their clutch. This is also handy if you just want to chuck it in your back pocket or straight back into your purse. The card wallets are also made from the same fabrics as the PVC outer, so you can either be all matchy matchy or make it super unique just for you.
What other options are there? Well, you can even add a wristlet strap or a cross body shoulder strap with all hard wear being available in either gold or silver.
Tema: Is there anything else that you’d like us to know about you and your participation at Gathered SA?
Sarah: I am so excited to be coming along and meeting all of the amazing people that come out for a look and without these events or you coming by our stalls, we all can’t do what we enjoy. This Gathered SA, I will be bringing the largest range I’ve ever taken to a market. I will still have my scrunchies with me of course, but this will be the re-launch of the new and improved Three Of Me, so I look forward to meeting you all there!
You can visit Three Of Me at the Gathered Design Market onOctober 26 + 27 from 10am – 4pm at the Queen’s Theatre in the Adelaide CBD.
Entry to the market is $2 and there is $4 (flat rate) parking available on Saturdays and Sundays at K Park along Playhouse Lane.
With thanks to Jenna O’Dell from Gathered SA for the interview opportunity.
