Every (T2) Tea Has A Tale

Can you believe that Christmas is literally around the corner? Less than 5 Mondays away, to be more precise!

And if you’re like me and are surrounded by lots of friends and family who are avid tea-drinkers, then T2 Tea might just be your one-stop shop for all your gifting needs.

T2 Tea’s newest range Every Tea Has A Tale is packed with so many goodies that have a nostalgic touch to it, that the literary fan in you will have you fluttering with happiness. Not only is their packaging completely on point, but the flavors are perfectly matched to their namesake in a manner that will whisk you away to a world of joy, happiness, and relaxation.

Think of lots of vibrant colors, intricate details in the packaging, and super cute and quirky elements that make anything from T2’s Every Tea Has A Tale range a truly festive and exciting one.

The new teas that have come in can be enjoyed hot or cold, but given how intense our Australian summer can get, I’d highly suggest investing in a Jug-a-lot, in order to enjoy the teas chilled:

Couple with the cute, bite-sized Apple Crumble Cookies and you’re in for a dessert in a drink!

Offering a range of teawares that are painted in bright colors of red, blue, purple, and green (to highlight a few), the new range is saturated with beautiful looking tea cups and tea pots that are fit to enjoy a tea party out in the balmy weather! My personal favourite, however, is the T2 x Matt Larkin Mug with Infuser, which comes with an impressive lid with a surprising message hidden underneath. Complete the look with a Nutcracker infuser and you’ll be the star of the party, no doubt!

Recently, I had one of those weeks that absolutely wiped me out. Working 6 days straight across 3 jobs warranted a day of a pure treat-yo’self-sesh, which involved a relaxing bubble bath. To add to the beautiful ambience, I used these new, limited edition candles by T2 separately on 2 different occasions:

The Night Market Nomad Candle is one that I used on a day when I wanted to feel rejuvenated and re-energized. Packed with ginger and lemongrass, this scent is so distinct that it freshens up the entire home in no time!

The Once Upon A Lullaby candle was used on a day that demanded a time to unwind, escape reality for a bit, and loosen up a bit! It has a subtle aroma that is bound to make you feel like you’re being taken away to a true dreamland. Involving the scent of jasmine and lavender, this one served up a real treat!

Bonus: you get all your tea goodies gift wrapped FOR FREE if you are a Tea Society member! And if you’re not, then you’re missing out on monthly discounts, exclusive tastings, and much much more, so make sure you jump on the benefits of being a Tea Society member here: https://www.t2tea.com/en/au/tea-society.html

Lady Burra Brewhouse’s Newest Beer For Aussie Farmers

With thanks to Girl About Town for the information and images.

You know what’s better than realizing that tomorrow is Friday? Realizing that tomorrow’s choice of an after-work drink can be a brand new type of beer – all in the name of supporting our Aussie farmers!

Adelaide microbrewery fave Lady Burra Brewhouse will be pouring a limited edition strawberry beer, which has been crafted by talented head brewer Eliot Kirby. In addition to providing an aromatic essence and delivering in presentation and taste, $1 from each strawberry beer purchase will be donated towards Aussie Helpers – a Queensland-based charity that is currently providing support to our Aussie farmers, who have been impacted by the severe drought this year.

Boasting of a balanced combination of the brewery’s session ale + blended strawberries, the strawberry beer will present with a mildly bitter albeit refreshing strawberry tartness, with a creamy finish.

We added 20 kilos of fresh strawberries to a brew of session ale after four days of primary fermentation. It is the perfect beer for the warmer weather! – Eliot Kirby.

Since starting as Head Brewer in August this year, Eliot has had a strong vision for the Lady Burra brand, one which puts an emphasis on supporting local suppliers by incorporating seasonal fruits into the brewing process.

The strawberry beer will be available at Lady Burra Brewhouse from October 19, 2018 for a limited time.

Adelaide Fringe Wine Collection

The Adelaide Fringe season is the highlight of my year, every single year. Being the second biggest arts festival in the world (after Edinburgh), where artists, performers, and storytellers come together for a jam packed month of festivities, fun, and fabulousness, the city of Adelaide always comes alive during this time and attracts locals and tourists alike on a large scale.

Being a part of the Adelaide Fringe over the last 2 years, my love for this season has only blossomed with time. Just like wine – it simply gets better with time!

Speaking of wine, long-time partner and supporter of Adelaide Fringe – Tomich Wines -has just announced their brand new Tomich Fringe Wine Collection. Available from January 2019, 5% of the proceeds will support Fringe artists through the Adelaide Fringe Artist Fund, to support emerging Australian artists. What makes this deal even sweeter is that all Fringe 2019 venues will also have exclusive access to these wines from $10 LUC (landed unit cost).

Sporting the artwork of the 2019 Poster that was created by Matthew Clarke as their wine labels, the unique and local boutique range of wines (that have been specifically created for the Festival) will boast of a velvety red wine (NV Adelaide Hills), a classic white Sauvignon blanc (2017 Adelaide Hills), and a “gutsy” Shiraz (2017 South Australia) – all of which will be the perfect accompaniment to the balmy evenings and nights that await us around Fringe season early next year. By using the same artwork, Tomich Wines hopes to inject Clarke’s idea of representing himself at the Fringe and offer the similar concept of making people happy through the delicious drops of wine that are on offer.

Supporting the Adelaide Fringe festival beyond the city limits, lovers of this festival can also expect to enjoy a Fringe Festival In The Vineyard, which will be held in Woodside (Adelaide Hills), where a number of installations and shows will be on offer across the vineyard. Lunches under the trees, tents with a Roman theme, and art installations throughout the vineyard will be just some of the exciting Fringe-y experiences that will be a part of this unique venture.

The Tomich Fringe Wine Collection offer will be available from January 1st 2019 – March 30th, 2019.

With thanks to Cassie Young from Be Young PR for the invite to this event.

Mekko Market & Cafe

You know what’s better (more dangerous) than just dining or just shopping?

Combining the two in one truly historically gorgeous space!

Mekko Market & Cafe on Prospect Road has been gaining popularity since they opened in May earlier this year. Not only does their space offer a beautiful combination of modernity mixed with quirky elements in the form of their mismatched yet complementary furniture and fittings, but also, they bring the best of both worlds together, where diners can enjoy a bit of a splurge at their second-hand market, which is saturated with preloved clothing that won’t break the bank!

I was so impressed with the concept of this unique cafe and market that I was fortunate enough to score an interview with the owners of Mekko Market & Cafe – have a read of our exchange below:

Tema: Who are the owners of Mekko Market & Café?
Tom Nilsson, Irene Kollanus and Marjukka Wilson. Irene and Marjukka come from a Finnish background and Tom is Swedish.

Tema: What made you decide to open up a café with a difference; where customers are also given the opportunity to experience the market atmosphere?
We wanted to do something different. We weren’t sure if there was a market for this kind of concept, so we wanted to be the first ones doing it. Our café and clothing market support each other very well, as our customers love them both.

Tema: How does the process of hiring a rack here work (cost / length of time of renting out the rack, etc)?
Our rack rental is available for $69 (single rack) /$99 (family rack) for 2 weeks. We don’t take any commission. You can top up your rack anytime within your rental period. Sharing a rack with someone is also good way of sharing the rental cost. If you would like to book a rack, the best way is to pop in to our market and we can check the availability for you.
If you book a rack with us in September, you can enjoy having the 2nd week for free!

Tema: Who is the mastermind behind the menu items? Who is your head chef? How do they find inspiration to create the beautiful and delicious items on your menu?
We do all the masterminding together as a team! We do lot of resourcing online and also use our background as Scandinavians, to bring a Scandi twist to our meals. Our head chef / co-owner Tom Nilson then puts all our thoughts together and creates tasty meals.

Tema: What kind of food would you say Mekko Market & Café primarily serves?
We have an all day menu and a separate dinner menu for Saturday nights. Soon, we will also be open for dinner on Fridays. Our food is modern Australian with a Scandinavian twist. We are listening to our lovely customers, who are hoping to see more Scandinavian food on the menu. Our new menu is now more Scandi than our previous one.

Tema: What do you hope for customers of Mekko Market & Café to experience when visiting / dining / shopping here?
We hope everyone who comes and visits us can have a relaxing and fun experience in our cosy café. Our menu is like no other, with a Scandinavian twist. Our Alfresco area is very European, with a relaxed lounge setting and colorful lanterns that decorate the space. We hope that you will feel like you’re on a little holiday! In our market, you can shop like nowhere else. There are lots of great brands at very affordable prices. Our Market is also open Saturday nights for our diners. Where else you can have a glass of wine while shopping?

Tema: What is a dish that you would highly recommend from your menu?
On our updated dinner menu, we have the pan fried Barra with traditional Finnish apple & potato salad, broccolini, spiced pea pure, crispy enoki, raddish and herbs. We also have very tasty fish tacos.

Tema: What is a highly popular dish that is on your menu at the moment?
Our most popular meals at the moment are the smashing pumpkins and our Mekko Burger. We also have lot of Vegan and Gluten free options on our menu as well, like the chickpea tofu omelette and the Vegan burger.

Tema: How would you describe your space / business to someone who hasn’t been before? What do you hope they can expect on their first visit?
Our licensed Café/Restaurant & Market offer a great combination of great food, good coffee and shopping. All 35 racks in our preloved clothing market are full of beautiful clothes and the prices are very affordable. We guarantee that the whole stock will be new and fresh every fortnight. We have spacious indoor and outdoor seating areas as well, so you can enjoy a bite while you shop!

Tema: How frequently will your menu change (will it be seasonal / will there be some items that are permanently on the menu, etc)?
We listen to our lovely customers and do little changes to our menu all the time. We change the whole menu with seasons. Some of the best sellers are permanently placed on the menu.

Tema: Is there anything else that you’d like our readers and your customers to know about Mekko Market & Café?
This beautiful Art Deco building was originally a police station and a court house. With our renovations, we wanted to respect the building and preserve its aged features in the best manner possible.

The Noble Gentleman

Seen as a spot that is constantly undergoing activation (and with good reason), Topham Mall has become a mecca of some of the most incredible local businesses that offer customers with a myriad of options of an ideal shopping experience.

It’s been less than two months since The Noble Gentleman opened their doors, but it is no surprise that the well kept secret that is tucked away in the heart of the CBD has attracted a generous crowd after work!

Our state is well known for their food and wine – not only in Australia but also across the globe. The Noble Gentleman is embracing that very culture of our state by offering their space as a cellar door, without having to spend hours traveling to the wineries. And while you may miss out on the picturesque views and the calming ambiance of McLaren Vale and the Barossa Valley (and everywhere in between), customers can have a snippet of our beloved state’s fermented grapes as a brilliant pick-me-up after a long day of work.

With the aim of replicating the vibes of streets like Peel and Leigh, which are saturated with a bottomless drinking hole of dive bars and cocktails that not only appeal in presentation but also in taste, The Noble Gentleman is hoping to inject a slice of South Australian heaven from their colorful drinks list. Housing up to 120 people at one time, there are indoor and outdoor seating areas available, which is a blessing that will allow customers to enjoy their drinks and food in the sunshine that will be blanketing Adelaide with the advent of Spring and Summer.

There is a relaxed balance of socialization and intimacy that decorates the overall atmosphere of this spot. The interior is adorned in rustic wood and modern + minimalist light fittings from the Adelaide-based interiors firm Faculty, which further add to the mysterious yet eclectic style of the bar.

Of course, no wine session is complete without food, so customers can expect to enjoy locally sourced cheese and meats, along with tapas and share plates, particularly from the Barossa Fine Foods. Pictured below is The Noble Gentleman Platter for Two ($28)which brings together an assortment of local delights from The Barossa Valley Cheese Co. and Barossa Fine Foods – cured meats, cheese, in-house freshly baked bread and varying accompaniments. Perfectly complemented by a glass of red on a relatively cool day, this was a great option of sharing a meal with a friend!

Conveniently situated right next to Lady Burra Brewhouse – the only microbrewery in the CBD – The Noble Gentleman will be your one-stop cellar door that will showcase a different local South Australian wine every month, in addition to enjoying the opportunity to meet and greet the winemakers in person! For the month of September, Next Crop Wines will be making an appearance on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5pm onwards, where guests can enjoy free wine tastings and learn about the local business as well.

With special thanks to Girl About Town for the invite to the launch event.
